Where to Sell PLR Digital Planners: Etsy vs Shopify vs Gumroad vs Payhip
The honest answer depends on one thing: do you already have an audience?
If you do — an Instagram following, an active Pinterest account, an email list — your own store makes more sense, because you're not paying a marketplace for traffic you already have. If you don't, a marketplace is the faster start, because you're renting its traffic while you build your own.
Etsy
Best for: sellers with no audience yet.
Etsy has buyers actively searching for digital planners. That's the whole value, and it's a real one. In exchange you pay per listing and per sale, you compete on a crowded search page, and you're building a business on a platform whose rules can change.
Watch out for: the customer is Etsy's, not yours. You generally can't email them later.
Shopify
Best for: sellers who already drive their own traffic, or who plan to.
Full control of the storefront, your own domain, your own customer list, and a proper email relationship. You'll need a digital delivery app, and the monthly cost exists whether you sell anything or not.
Watch out for: Shopify brings zero traffic. A Shopify store with no marketing is invisible.
Gumroad
Best for: getting a first product live in an afternoon.
Simplest setup of the four. No monthly fee — the cost comes out of each sale. Fine for a single product or a small catalogue.
Watch out for: the storefront is basic. It reads as a checkout page rather than a brand.
Payhip
Best for: a middle path — more storefront than Gumroad, less overhead than Shopify.
Sells digital products, memberships and courses, handles EU VAT, has a usable free tier, and includes a built-in affiliate system.
Watch out for: smaller ecosystem, fewer integrations and fewer people to ask when something breaks.
What we'd actually suggest
No audience: start on Etsy. Get sales, learn which listings work, save the profit.
Some audience: Payhip or Gumroad. Keep the customer relationship, keep overheads near zero.
Growing and serious: Shopify, with Etsy running alongside as a traffic channel rather than your only shop.
And whichever you pick — list on one platform properly before adding a second. A finished listing on one platform beats four half-finished ones.
Our PLR licence permits all four, so the same kit can move with you as you grow.
